Our perfumery creates hand crafted natural perfume, solid perfume, and natural bath and body products.  The original perfume we create is made out of the same aromatic materials that have been used in perfume making since the days of ancient Egypt. Only the highest quality natural essential oils from flowers, aromatic woods, scented resins and plants are used. We practice the ancient art of perfumery with updated methods to create natural perfumes.

There are no synthetic fragrance oils used in "natural perfumery".  The highly complex scent of a natural essential oil is much truer than synthetic fragrance oil.  We believe synthetics can never match the true beauty of a scent of natural origin.  All of our perfumes are made solely with ingredients that are found in the aromatic elements of our Earth.

Fleur de Lis Perfumes recreates the natural perfumes of ancient times with historical accuracy. Perfumes in the ancient days were concentrated scented unguents (similar to solid perfumes of today) and perfumed oils.  We have researched the materials used in ancient formulas and recreated them with the same materials.  To date, we have recreated three ancient perfumes.  The first was based on the favorite perfumes of Queen Nefertiti of Egypt at 1340 B.C.E..  The second is based on the blended cultures of the Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks during the time of Cleopatra VII,
Julius Caesar, and Mark Antony, (roughly 40 B.C.E.). And the latest
ALEXANDER "OMNI", is based on the scents which would have been available to
Alexander the Great in his vast empire.
Natural Perfumes
Our two modern style original perfumes: "Desiree" and "Luann Marie".  These fragrances are available in bottles and in solid perfume form.  Both fragrances are made in the modern day style--that is, based in perfumer's alcohol.  Both are made with only natural essential oils, with no synthetics used at all. "Desiree" is a "floriental" and "Luann Marie" is a warm floral.
Is it "Fleur de Lis" or "Fleur de Lys"?
The fleur de lis is still a symbol associated with France, where the perfume making art still thrives.  "Fleur" means "flower" in French, and "Fleur de lis" roughly translates to "flower of the lily".  The fleur de lis (spelled fleur de lys in French) was used in the coat of arms of the royalty of France.  Its overall shape is now used by many different entities such as the Girl Scouts, and cities in Louisiana for whom the fleur de lis is the symbol of their city.  The fleur de lis is symbolic of the French heritage of the settlers of the New Orleans area.  We chose the fleur de lis as our company name because it is from flowers that we have derived some of the most beautiful natural perfumes of all.

Ancient Perfume and Modern Perfume
The art of perfume making is an ancient art, dating back in history thousands of years when perfume was more precious than gold.  Aromatic materials and natural oils from plants were treated and crafted with great patience into perfumes, incense, bath oils, and the scented unguents.  Many different parts of the plants were used then, and still are today: flowers, bark, roots, resins, rinds, and seeds.   The long lasting oils scented the skin as well as keeping it protected and supple in harsh climates.  In modern times, essential oils are distilled and mixed into a volatile alcoholic base so the fragrance surrounds the wearer more quickly.
